Orange Khmers' final assault against Justice
Motto: No criminal blackmail will ever bring me to silence.
Great political pressure on judges has made the latter make use of a desperate solution. 1,600 magistrates complained about the very head of CSM (the Supreme Council of Magistrates), a sovereign institution representing this power in state. After hot debate CSM decided to inform the Constitutional Court. The latter will have to decide whether the president of Romania has broken...

Social-Democrats plot against Nastase
The Social-Democrats are plotting to kick Nastase out of the party and deprive him of official position. Central leaders have drawn plan to eliminate the undesirable. Just like the communists did, it is common members who carry it out. And there is more support: Dan Mircea Popescu, Iliescu's ally who has taken over Nastase's party position, says the party is concerned about it and searches for solution.

Alliance members at discord
The local leaders of the Liberal-Democrat Alliance in power are rather confused. The representatives of Romanian Democrats and Liberals are in the habit of making weekend statements contradicting each other. They interpret political events in such different manners that conclusions seem to be about opposite things. Yesterday the Liberal leader in Suceava Ion Lungu opined the Alliance disobeyed the initial program and the Coalition was not working...

EPP recommends "legal steps" against corruption
EPP representatives seem to be for postponement of Romania's accession to the EU. German politicians in the EPP group have claimed that 2008 is a term much more realistic for Romania's accession, says Deutsche Welle.

Polish ratification
Yesterday Polish deputies ratified the Treaty of Accession with Romania and Bulgaria, says Rompres. There was one single deputy to vote against it. In February 24 this year there was debate on the law to ratify the two states' treaties on accession to the EU. The foreign affairs commission and the EU affairs one recommended Polish deputies to pass the law with no amendments.
The treaty is now to reach the Senate. If Polish senators vote for it, it is the...

Basescu phoned Vadim
Yesterday PRM ("Great Romania" Party) president Corneliu Vadim Tudor warned that in March 15 PRM would be ready for any action and would make a real show in Odorheiu Secuiesc unless Romanian authorities behaved appropriately.
He said PRM members would protest in front of all offices belonging to UDMR (the Democrats Union of Magyars in Romania). Vadim claimed there was need of no legal authorization for the demonstration he was preparing. He admitted that...
