The NATO general secretary Jaap de Hoop Scheffer outlined the importance of the Bucharest NATO summit as far as Afghanistan was concerned. The President of the latter country, the UN general secretary, the president of the European Commission and World Bank representatives are to attend the talks on Afganistan scheduled to take place during the NATO summit held in Bucharest.
According to Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, Afghanistan matters to the international community and it is an international effort. He made this announcement after meeting with the President of Romania Traian Basescu yesterday in Bucharest.
The Romanian President commented in his turn that it would be the greatest satisfaction for the West Balkan states and those on the East of Romania to fulfill their aspirations and become member states after this NATO summit.
The NATO official apologized to the Bucharest inhabitants for the traffic inconvenience they would be facing these days because of the summit. (A.I.)
