The Romanian PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu wants the first car matriculation fee used at any costs and this is why he is ignoring the Romanian President's suggestions. The PM even replied to the latter, calling the Romanian President's statement an obstacle in the talks with the European Commission. It is to be reminded that such talks started because the calculation of the fee was not all right and the European Commission started the infringement procedures on Romania.
The PM argued: "As far as I am concerned, I have no hesitation: such a fee is correct and in keeping with EU norms on pollution." He claimed Romania had to take efforts to diminish pollution. "I can't understand how can we fancy that, after joining an EU view, we can find different reasons not to apply these norms.", the PM added. And he also told the Romanian ministers that he was disappointed with President Basescu's purely demagogical attitude. (F.B.)
