During Saturday's meeting of the women leaders in the PSD (Social-Democrat Party), the party president Mircea Geoana claimed the Social-Democrat women had to be ready to gain the electorate's benevolence, an operation which he called 'The Amazons'. He argued as follows: " We must train candidates able to fight for the electorate's benevolence. I would give it a code name: the Amazons operation." He urged the women in the party to do away with the Elena Ceausescu "failing myth". The women organization in the PSD pursues to get power over 100 city halls in the future elections, along with some 37%-40% eligible positions in electoral lists. Mircea Geoana promised his women colleagues 30% of ministries in a future PSD government. Last Saturday there also took place the National Conference of Liberal Students Clubs. Ludovic Orban, a vice president of the PNL (National Liberal Party), compared the President of Romania Traian Basescu with the malefic character of Sauron in The Lord of the Rings series. He told the Liberal juniors that his speech would be atypical and pleaded as follows: "This Land of Darkness mastered by this Sauron must be done away with. You are enthusiast and brave. It is you that I expect to turn to ashes this Land of Darkness led by this last Sauron." (O.B.)
