Pope Benedict XVI is not going to attend the 3rd Ecumenical Reunion to take place in Sibiu, this year's European City of Culture, Romania, next September. Hungarian Cardinal Erdo Peter, a president of the Council of European Episcopal Conferences, has recently announced it. According to the Cardinal, the Pontiff will be represented in the event by a letter or video recording. He has explained that the Pontiff is to be at the Holy Mary Sanctuary in Mariazell, Austria, at the time the Sibiu Reunion will take place. 2,500 of religious representatives throughout the whole Europe are expected to attend the event scheduled for September. One main part in the meeting will be played by the development of relations between the Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church, Rompres reminds. (D.E.)
