Radu Portocala, director of the Romanian Cultural Institute in Paris, announced his resignation yesterday. In his official letter for the Romanian foreign minister Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu and for the general director of the Romanian Cultural Institute Horia-Roman Patapievici, Radu Portocala claims the main reason for his decision is that Romanian centers abroad are subordinate to both the MAE (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and the ICR (Romanian Cultural Institute).
Radu Portocola also denounces "the Romanian bureaucratic principles that the ICR in Bucharest seems to be complicating even more". In his message he argues that double subordination brings more confusion, just as it makes procedures to recruit staff more difficult. (...) (G.D.)
