Sorin Iliesiu wrote an open letter to Romanian president Traian Basescu, asking the head of state to allow Romanian Presidency to establish a commission to handle communism crimes. The author claims that such a scientific document would make grounds for convicting communism and the president would thus be allowed to come in front of the Parliament and sentence communism, such as in the case of the Holocaust. This initiative is not the only of the kind that Iliescu has proceeded to. He is co-author of film "University Square-Romania". In May he appealed to the Parliament of Romania so that the institution would see to the start of a trial on communism in Romania and to arrange a new Yalta Conference. Sorin Iliesiu asked the Parliament of Romania to take the Parliament of Latvia as example and sentence communism along with everything that brought communism to Romania against the Romanian people's will. Iliesiu is also author of "The Proclamation for Romania", a document including a set of measures meant to reform the Romanian society morally. Iliesiu has been a member of the Group for Social Dialogue since April 1990. He is also a founding member of the Civic Alliance and of the Academic Civic Foundation. (A.H.)
